Mexico would be a good place to start. They are native and there are alot that live on streets, which means you would do a good deed by rescuing one.

Alright. Let me first start by informing you that there is no such thing as an "applehead chihuahuas" or I should say, there is no kind of chihuahua EXCEPT appleheaded chihuahuas. As the breed standard states ALL chihuahuas should have that distinctly "apple" head. If someone is selling you a chihuahua advertised as appleheaded you are being ripped off.

That being said, here is a good place for you to start looking for a reputable breeder.

'Appleheads' are generally in much more demand than 'deerheads', and therefore cost more. I live in SoCal, right outside Oxnard and know of many of the petstores around and I will be blunt about this.

DO NOT BUY FROM OUR LOCAL PETSTORES.

ESPECIALLY Pets of Bel Air. They disgust me.

if you are to get an 'Applehead', try to find a LOCAL breeder or one from NorCal. I know of a few close to Sacramento who ships, but really, they only breed a few times a year.

DO NOT GET ONE FROM THE SOUTH OR MIDWEST. Namely, Texas, Alabama, those places. That's where the petstores get their pups, and many of them breed them only for the money.

The petstores around us are only there for the celebrities who don't know any better. I bet you anything that right now, there are more chihuahuas in the LA shelters than at all the petstores put together.

      How much do they cost?

      At the shelter. $37.
From a petstore, breeder, etc. $1200+

I strongly advise you to check out the Baldwin, Downey and Lancaster shelters. They have WAY too many chihuahuas there than there should be, and many are just hyperactive, and not biters.

They're all adorable too, walk in, and you'll want to walk out with all of them.

      Good luck!

i beg to differ, there is a such thing as a applehead chihuahua and there is a deer head chihuahua. Look in the newspaper and local shelter too
