Does anyone know where to buy medical grade silicone to sculpt with?

April 17th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I am looking for a place to purchase very high quality silicone that is safe for internal use. The easier it is to mold, the better. All the molding sites I've found don't sell materials that are safe for internal use. Any help or step in the right direction would be appreciated!
Not to make a mold with, but for the actual sculpture to be made of silicone… and a website with prices would help even more, as before we make the molds we want to
make sure sculpting with silicone is financially feasible…

what do you want to do with it? If you just want to use it as a mold material you would use alginate. That's the stuff the dentist uses to make a mold of your teeth. It also sets really fast, you wouldn't want to have mold material for several hours in your mouth….
You will get it from dental supply places and the cheaper versions should cost around $10 per pound (and avoid cherry flavor, it tastes and smells more awful than mint…)
