Hey, I just realized that Absinthe is legal now. Anybody in the northern Illinois area know where to buy it?

Sorry, forgot to add. Yeah it is the Lucid brand. Just want to try it, don't want to kill myself or get overly drunk, I imagine a bottle of that goes a long way.

well if you do find out were to buy some, you shouldn't buy any. . . unless they worked out all the "bugs" that stuff can kill you.

There is one Absinthe that is legal in the U.S. that has small amounts of Thujone (the chemical that is created by wormwood that gives it is notorious properties.) It is called Lucid. Absinthe has gotten a bad rap. All alcohol can kill you if you drink large amounts of it. Absinthe has a very high proof and people would drink too much of it. It is meant to be drunk with lots and lots of water and honestly it doesn't taste good otherwise. It has some great rituals and accessories. I own an Antique Absinthe fountain, some glasses and some spoons. If you want to see a couple of great videos on how to drink it go here:

We had an Absinthe party and tried both ways and the French way tasted better. We tried 4 kinds from around the world. The buzz isn't psychedelic as much as it's like a stimulant like you are drinking it with caffeine. So it probably feels like all those Red Bull cocktails the young kids like so much. I am not sure if you can buy Lucid in Illinois, but you can get it in Nebraska and Iowa, so I don't see why not. Just drink it carefully and arrange a ride!

Bear in mind that the drink that is allowed to be sold in the USa under the name absinthe isn't the real thing.

Lucid is one of three available absinthes in the US, all of which are genuine absinthe…i.e. "the real thing" contrary to what many might say.
The greatest dis-service absinthe has gotten has been the marketing hype that it's supposed to make you trip or hallucinate or that it has some magical panty-removing aphrodisiac properties. The buzzword "thujone" has been used for a century for a scapegoat to make it illegal and to attribute its evil qualities to. There is a recently published scientific study of modern (including those available legally in the US) and those made before it was banned. It turns out that they were pretty much the same after all.

Anyway, to answer your question, if you can't find it locally, you can always try Sam's Wine in Chicago, or online.
