This is what a british outlet/plug looks like: http://www.washington.edu/computing/global/plug_g.png

Now, I can't plug an American plug in a British outlet or else bad things will happen. I need one of those outlet tranformers that plug into a British Outlet but have american style outlets on the other side.

The luggage/travel section of most department stores will sell simple (mechanical) adapters which will allow you to make the connection.

Some of the stores will also sell suitable transformers which plug directly into a British (240Vac) socket and have an American socket which gives 120Vac out.
I think that's what you are looking for.

They are also available in the U.K. of course. Here is one http://cpc.farnell.com/TF00693/components-spares/product.us0?sku=phonapart-sc5474w-bp&_requestid=88122
