Where to buy Army gear (gloves and pads)?

February 4th, 2010 · 3 Comments

I’m about to deploy to Afghanistan and looking to buy some shooting gloves, and some knee pads. I really want the gloves and pads to be well-ventilated to better protect myself from the heat. Yes, I’m a total pussy with hot weather. So I need to take comfort where I can. I prefer the gloves to be Tan. What website is best for shopping? Or do any of you have specific gear you would recommend? Maybe something even non glove/pad related?

Name brands to look for if it matters would also help. Thankyou.

It is called RFI - Rapid Fielding Initiative…you will get those items and about $4,200.00 worth more when you process to deploy…trust me…don’t buy anything yet…

I don’t know anything about the RFI.
For gloves, I recommend Mechanix brand, or Oakleys. The Mechanix are cheaper, but the Oakleys are amazingly comfortable. And for the Mechanix gloves, I recommend that you buy their semi-tactical series, the tan ones with rubber knuckles for protection.
For knee pads, go with Altas or Bijans. Altas are smaller, but slip easier.
optactical and skdtac are my favorite websites to buy from.
Make sure you have good eye protection, too. ESS is my favorite brand.
      Stay safe, and good luck.

Brigade Quartermasters and Ranger Joe’s is where I got my geardo on. I’ve heard that U.S. Cavalry is good too, but never bought anything from them.

I think the standard issue Aviator gloves are just fine for deployment. And our unit was issued some practically bullet-proof knee pads - I guess I can understand why you’d be interested in something lighter-weight.

Be sure to ask about your unit regulations before you buy anything expensive. Some units don’t care what you wear on patrol, others insist you wear issue gear.
