Where to buy fresh olives?
November 4th, 2009 · 6 Comments
Tried Walmart food store and other local food stores, but no luck. I am looking for fresh olive and the only thing I was able to find was small cans of olives (and they were expensive).
A couple of dollars for not even a half lb of olive is too expensive.
Where can I purchase fresh black or green olives?
I also tried online, but it was worse, the cans are really small and expensive. I am looking for fresh olives that haven’t been canned yet.
Thanks in advance

Most supermarkets have olive bars now. You can choose from a variety of olives and buy as many as you need (they are sold by the pound). Look near the imported meats and cheeses.

Fresh off a tree?
Or loose cured or brined olives?
If your looking for an olive bar with a variety of diffent olives,
Whole Foods has a nice bar( but also expensive).
If you mean olives off a tree( thats what fresh means), they are not edible in that state. You would have to cure them or brine them( a long process). Also, those aren’t that cheap either( $5.99 per lb vs. $8.99 for the already to eat olives in an olive bar).
Tell me exactly what you mean?
I am in that business( Goumet market and Importing).
More info.

I have seen these many many times. Holiday Market has them, our Kroger’s has them, they are sold in Arabic Town, and also deli’s. Should not be hard to find at all. They also have the at Whole Foods. I seen them there last week.

Maybe in Greece right now or Italy, but any where else I doubt it. Look olives get ripe they have to be picked and pickled right away. Or they are pressed to make oil. They do not hold and you can not eat them unless they are processed. They are uneatable unless they are soaked in a brine water for weeks and then canned in a salty brine to preserve. So you will not find fresh olives except on my trees right now. Want to help me pick. It is cold and rainy, not fun picking olives, no fun at all.
