Well, there was this old Sony model laptop that I really wanted and was saving up for. Then they stopped selling them. I do want the laptop new. Also, I think I could save a little more money on an older model. I mean they couldn’t have sold every single laptop. There must be some left somewhere just sitting around never to be sold. Probably I could get the laptop cheap. I know one site where they sell old models for cheap but it’s a scam. (Searched it online.) I know usually old models aren’t as good but are usually cheap. So where can I get new old models? Sony is preferred but I’m just looking for a cheap laptop so toher makers are fine.

Think of laptops or any machines as cars - they are complicated machines composed of many parts working in implausible harmony (and not even all the time). Just like they don’t sell every car, they don’t sell every laptop - but that doesn’t mean that there’s some big garage sale behind the HP factory where you can get a mid-age Pavilion for $50 any more than it means you can get a Honda Accord for $500.
To answer your question, think about what happens to a machine as it ages - some parts do better than others. Critical parts like the CPU and graphics card suffer a lot. Owners may eventually part out their machines - leaving a case and mobo in need of HD (and Caddy), RAM and graphics card. Not all of these are easily replaceable (Crucial may havethe RAM, but the right video cards are hard to find). Many laptops are leased to companies - these typically end up in the manufacturer’s refurbished products bin.
By the time these things really have been discarded, they’re missing hard to find parts and they’re stuck with aging technology - they can’t handle new OS’s, and nobody is updatiing software for the old OS. I have an old Apple Wallstreet PB - it’s a great machine. For about $50, I got a working laptop - screen, HD, RAM, optical drive, surprisingly . It’s physically battered but works very well. The OS and a new adapter added about $80 to the machine, but otherwise it works like a dream. The problem is that I haven;t figured out how to run it in OSX, meaning I’m stuck on OS9 and can’t get web browsers that will see much of what’s on the web.
In other cases, you’ll get a machine that needs replacement parts that will cost time and money to get. You won’t spend as much as you would have on a new machine, but the costs will likely narrow.
