So, I want to buy a skateboard, but not online, because I want to be able to try riding it before I buy it. What are some stores that sell them? I really want an Element one, but any one will do.

At your local skate shop would be the best place. If there isn't a skate shop close to you it might be easier to buy the skateboard online.

there ought to be a skateshop near you…..
i wouldn't recommend getting an element at first… start out by practicing on a friends and getting the hang of it… if you buy an element and you dont like it… thats a waste of a complete… but if you know how to do all the basics and some flips and grinds then go for it…
