where to buy the pointe shoes? online? im a beginer?

November 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments

so when im ready for pointe ill need to be fitted and im not a where of and dance stores in my area selling the shoes. The only place to buy them would be online. Im afraid to be buying online considering i have no idea how they run and with the different brands its very confusing to me. Any ideas about my size for different brands and how they run if i were to buy online. my “street” size is 8 to 8 1/2. What are the best brands money isn’t really a problem but it has to be reasonable. Plus remember im a beginner and need shoes that are good for beginning pointe also. My arch is not high or low but i wear flip flops the time if that would have anything to do with the flattening of my arch. dont im stupid i am blonde but what is a shank of the pointe shoe? While browsing the shoe it was talking about the shank sizes and well what is that? ha ha ham open for ANY suggestions please!

okay. you probably should NOT buy your first pair of pointe shoes online! Its hard to generalize how pointe shoe sizes run, because it depends on what kind of shoe you are getting. (i.e you might be a six in grishkos or an 11 in gaynor mindens). Also, there are no really”best brands” because different shoes will work for different dancers. Some shoes are moer suitable for things like: high or low arches, strength of your foot, or even the shape of your foot. The shank of the pointe shoe is the bottom of the shoe that is hard, (different sheos have different stiffnesses), and it offers support to the dancer. Shank sizes mean whether the shank is a 3/4 shank, long or short, and where it cuts off on the bottom of the foot. It may also be talking about the stiffness of the shoe.
All in all, you may want to travel to a dance store, because in the long run: you will have shoes that you are positive will fit, because you will be fitted by a professional, they may sew your shoes for you, and you will have the correct padding. With this, you will have lesser chance of injury, and in turn you will have a longer time to dance! (and a less painful one!)

Hope I helped, Good Luck on pointe and Happy Dancing!! :D

Well a great place to buy shoes online is at http://www.discountdance.com thats where I buy all of my shoes. At discount dance it will give you a discription of the shoe and a suggested fitting size Some good beginner shoe brands are Bloch and Gamba. I started on Bloch Serenades and they worked well for me. Also a good sight that will give you info on correct fit and definitions of things (like the shank) and stuff like that is http://www.parkenet.org/jp/ttp02.htm. Also i would suggest when you order shoes to get a soft to medium shank. here is another great sight that will help with fitting the shoe http://www15.plala.or.jp/miagolare/Eng_Fitting_Chart.html.
      hope this helps!
