Where to read books online or buy cheap?

September 13th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I am looking for a place online to read books for free. I don’t really want to buy them because they are old and would probably be cheap, but still would rather print them off the internet.

I am speaking of books such as Farenheit 451, The Giver, Animal Farm, etc.

Thanks.
I would rather own them than just borrow them from a library though, and if I were to get them off the internet, I would rather print them to have physical copies instead of paying for a physical copy.

I’m not sure whether they will have those books, but if you live in England, especially the South East, local libraries have good book sales - about 20 - 50 pence per book. Then again, you could always just loan the book out. Charity shops also sell books cheaply. As for reading online, I’m not sure, but maybe a google search (or yahoo) would do the trick?

I order my books through Amazon.com or through the used market place for Barnes and Noble. They list the quality of the book, and are usually very cheap. I just bought 6 books, used, for 7.50 plus shipping and handling. All of my books were in wonderful condition!

You might be able to find them by going to http://www.gutenberg.org and that’s a free site. Or you might be able to find them by going to http://www.ebooks.com which is not a free site, but sometimes offers the books for cheap. I also go to abbooks.com to buy physical copies of the books, because they have a great selection of used books.

Get a library card and go to the library you can borrow the books for free. The library should carry those classic books anyway. Sometimes libraries have book sales (with older books or donated books). My library takes donations for used books and sells them about twice a year, you can get books for 50 cents to up to $2 and on the last day of the sale you buy a paper bag (for usually $5) and fill it up. You should ask your local library if that is something that they do.

      Also you could try http://www.paperbackswap.com
