the best place is a breeder..go to American Rabbit Breeders Assocation and find a show in your area and meet some breeders and you can see how big the rabbits you are intrested in will be. They can also give you other infermation you may need. Also 4-H is a good place to find breeders.

The best place to buy a rabbit or rabbits is from an ARBA breeder.
ARBA is the American Rabbit Breeders Association. There are over 40 breeds of rabbits recognized by ARBA. It will depend on what you want to do with the rabbits you want to raise.
Are you wanting to sell pets? If that is your main objective then don't even begin. Are you looking to raise rabbits to show in ARBA shows? Then attend a few shows, talk to breeders and learn all you can about the breed(s) you are interested in.
Are you wanting to raise rabbits for a meat source? And yes rabbits are very good eating. There are specific breeds that grow quickly and are bred just for their meat quality(New Zealand and Californians to name a few)>
before even considering buying even one rabbit you need to do lots of research. Learn all you can about rabbits and what can go wrong with breeding them. Like most does(females) lose their first litters because they just don't know what to do. Are you ready to accept the fact that you may end up with a litter of dead kits(babies)?
There are diseases rabbits can get, are you willing to learn what they are and how to treat them, without the help of a vet? In many areas vets do not know how to treat diseases of the rabbit.
The most important thing I can tell you is-
DO NOT BUY FROM A PETSTORE!!!!
To find an ARBA rabbit show near you got to the ARBA website and go to the shows link. There you can find a show near you.
Also ARBA is a great place to get loads of information and I highly suggest joining the association. they can help you find a rabbit club in your area to join and learn even more about rabbits.

Raising rabbits is a great HOBBY but it is not a money maker at all. Do not go into expecting to become rich, it won't happen.
Above all talk to reputable breeders(ARBA member) and learn all you can about rabbits. breeders are more than willing to help a "newbie" if your heart is in the right place.
Good Luck in your new endevor- if you need more info you can email me privately, I will help all I can.
