Where's the best place to live in Hawaii (buy or rent)? I can only afford $1,000/mo in rent. Thanks!?

I currently live in Ohio and want to move to Hawaii but I don't know where to start. I want to pick the best location for looks, feel, how safe it is, and all that.. but i'm also not rich so price very important. Thanks!

1000 a month is a very tight budget out there. Keep in mind that gas, food, and pretty much everything else costs a lot more than it does here in the midwest as well.

For that price range, your best bet is to look into apartment complexes outside the major cities. You didn't specify which island, but I'd look at Kapa'a, Waimea, and Ele'ele on Kauai, or northeast shore on Oahu.

Good luck. Hopefully I'll see you out there in a few years.
